Game Recap: #22 Men's Basketball |

Firebirds Stopped at Home by North Central

KENOSHA, Wis. — The Carthage College men's basketball team fell to North Central (Ill.) 90-79 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) action Saturday afternoon at Tarble Arena.

North Central (Ill.) (10-5, 5-2 CCIW) came out with a 10-3 margin to start. The Cardinals then grew their lead to 11 with a three-pointer at the 6:40 mark. After a visitors jumper, Carthage (8-8, 1-6 CCIW) made it a seven-point game with a layup from Tyler Guest. AJ Johnson beat the buzzer hitting a last-second three shrinking the North Central (Ill.) lead to 41-32 heading into halftime.

In the second, Carthage got the margin down to four with a three-pointer from Colton Sigel but the Cardinals battled back growing the advantage back up to 11 with a long-range bucket at the 9:41 mark. Crishawn Cook sank a three which sliced the lead to single-digits with 5:14 remaining but a 12-6 run for the visitors put them ahead 89-73. North Central (Ill.) went on to win the game 90-79.

Carthage stays at home facing No. 3 Illinois Wesleyan on Monday, January 24 at 7 p.m.

Head Coach Steve Djurickovic

"North Central is a tough matchup in many ways. They cut so well without the ball, space the floor, and always move with great purpose. I thought we did some nice things on the offensive end today but just couldn't get the big stop when we needed it and that's a credit to them.

This was the first of five games in the next nine days. We will keep battling and be ready for Illinois Wesleyan on Monday!"
