Firebirds Fall in Home Opener

KENOSHA, Wis. — The Carthage College women's soccer team fell to Illinois Tech to start the 2021 season 2-0 on Wednesday at Art Keller Field. 

The Scarlet Hawks (1-0) struck first with a goal at the 7:59 mark of the first half. Though Carthage (0-1) tallied six shots in the half, Illinois Tech added another goal just before halftime making it 2-0. 

In the second half, the Firebirds defense held the Scarlet Hawks to just one shot while the offense peppered the keeper with five. Though Carthage outshot Illinois Tech, the Firebirds could not find the back of the net, suffering a 2-0 loss. 

Carthage returns to action on Saturday, September 4 hosting the Battle on the Border Tournament. The Firebirds will play Luther at 7:15 p.m.
