Firebirds Swept in Doubleheader Action at Carroll

WAUKESHA, Wis. — Playing their second consecutive doubleheader against Carroll (Wis.) during the regular season, the Carthage College softball team fell to the Pioneers 8-4 in game one and 4-0 in game two in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) action on Saturday afternoon. 

Carroll (Wis.) (21-17, 17-13 CCIW) scored two to get game one started until Bella Spittler scored on a wild pitch in the second making it 2-1. After a Pioneers run, a walk brought in a run for Carthage (16-16, 14-14 CCIW), shrinking the deficit to 3-2. The Firebirds took the lead with a two-run single from Rylee Johnson flipping the score to 4-3. Carroll (Wis.) tied it and regained the lead with four runs in the fifth flipping the score to 8-4. Though Carthage had a runner on base in the seventh, the Pioneers won 8-4. 

After Carroll (Wis.) added lone runs in the first and third of game two, the Pioneers plated two in the sixth. The Firebirds had runners on base in the bottom of the seventh but a final groundout gave Carroll (Wis.) the 4-0 victory. 

The Firebirds stay on the road facing Elmhurst on Sunday, May 2 starting at noon.
