No. 2 Men’s Volleyball Finishes Regular Season Undefeated

CHICAGO — The No. 2 Carthage College men's volleyball team collected another straight-set conference victory over North Park on Saturday afternoon at North Park Gym.

The score was locked at 14 in the first until back-to-back kills from Matt Slivinski and Andrew Otto put the Firebirds in front 16-14. Though North Park (8-9, 4-7 CCIW) battled back to get within four at 22-18, Carthage (18-0, 12-0 CCIW) took the set 25-18.

The visitors began with a 15-11 margin in the second with a kill from Slivinski. The Vikings tied it at 22 but Carthage scored the next two points. North Park got within one however, a Vikings attack error and a final kill from Otto sealed the set for the Firebirds 25-23.

In the third, with the score tied at nine, Carthage put together a 16-8 run winning the match 25-17.

The Firebirds will be the No. 1 seed the Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Men's Volleyball Tournament hosting the No. 4 seed on Thursday, April 8.

Head Coach JW Kieckhefer

"Andrew Otto and Zach Bulthuis did a great job today of controlling the net. Otto's play to win set two really fired us up to come back and win set three.

Carter Schmidt and Matt Slivinski did a great job from the service line today. Our pressure was really good and it led to some easy points on our side of the net.

I'm impressed by this team's ability to find ways to win. Our first goal was accomplished today: to win the Inaugural CCIW Regular Season. I am proud of the guys for doing it by not losing a set. There is so much more out there to earn for this group! We will continue to take the season one match at a time."
