Women’s Lacrosse Fall to UChicago in First Round of CCIW Tournament

CHICAGO — The Carthage College women's lacrosse team fell to UChicago 18-6 in the first round of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Tournament on Wednesday at Stagg Field Complex.

UChicago (8-1) started the game with four straight goals until a goal from Elizabeth Oda shrank the deficit to 4-1. After the Maroons extended the lead to seven, Jessie Gibson got in the score column making it 8-2. Carthage (5-7) added a goal from Rachel Harris as Gibson notched her second as the Firebirds got within five however, UChicago headed into the intermission break up 11-4.

The Firebirds started the second half with a goal from Oda at the 25:53 mark. Margaux Giacotto found the back of the net five minutes later but the Maroons won the game 18-6.

Quick Facts

Elizabeth Oda and Jessie Gibson each tallied two goals while Margaux Giacotto and Rachel Harris finished with one.
Hanna Holloway led the Firebirds in assists with two while Alessandra Almendarez made eight saves in goal.
