Softball Sweeps North Park at Home

KENOSHA, Wis. — Continuing the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) play on Tuesday afternoon, the Carthage College softball swept North Park 9-1 and 7-4.

Carthage (12-10, 10-8 CCIW) got on the board first in game one with a five-run opening inning sparked by a two-run double from Rylee Johnson and a two-run single from Courtney Polanski. After North Park (14-14, 8-14 CCIW) added a lone run in the third, the Firebirds scored two while a double from Johnson in the fourth allowed Izzy Hernandez to score making it 8-1. A single from Naomi Alonzo sealed the victory for Carthage 9-1.

Following a double from Alonzo in the second of game two, the Firebirds added two in the third. Though the Vikings tied it in the fifth, a three-run double from Donna Stevens flipped the score to 6-3. Hernandez brought home Stevens with a single as Carthage extended the margin to 7-3. Although North Park got a run in the seventh, a strikeout and back-to-back groundouts gave the Firebirds the sweep 7-4.
