NAPERVILLE, Ill. — In the final regular-season road game of the season, the Carthage women's lacrosse team defeated North Central (Ill.) 23-11 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) competition on Monday.
Carthage (5-6, 2-3 CCIW) got on the board first two minutes into the game with a goal from Elizabeth Oda however, North Central (Ill.) (2-4, 1-2 CCIW) scored 32 seconds later. Jessie Gibson tallied her first goal of the game at the 27:42 as the Firebirds regained the lead 2-1. The Cardinals answered with another goal bringing the game back to two. A pair of goals from Margaux Giacotto and Hanna Holloway extended the lead to 4-2. The Cardinals tied the game at four with two unanswered goals with 15:28 to play in the half. Out of a timeout, Holloway netted her second goal as Firebirds went up 5-4. After another North Central (Ill.) goal,
Maddie Berni got in the score column making it 6-5 with 12:58 left. Each team traded goals as Giacotto notched her second, changing it to 7-6. Heading into the intermission break, Carthage held a 8-7 advantage.
North Central (Ill.) scored first in the second with two goals flipping the score to 9-8. The Firebirds retaliated and ended the game with a 13-3 run to win 22-11.
Quick Facts
- Hanna Holloway scored a season-high six goals and four assists for 10 points in the game. Holloway tied the record for most goals scored which is seventh all-time and tied for fourth in points in a game.
- Jessie Gibson scored five goals and led the Firebirds in assists with five. Gibson now has 32 goals scored this season.
- Elizabeth Oda set a new season-high in goals with four while Margaux Giacotto had four.
- Rachel Harris added two goals while Alessandra Almendarez made 11 saves in goal.
