Softball Collects Fifth and Sixth Straight Win

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — The Carthage College softball team opened the week with a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) doubleheader against Augustana (Ill.) taking game one 6-1 and 6-1 in game two on Monday at Carver Field. 

In game one, Carthage (9-5, 7-3 CCIW) used a big second inning to go ahead with an RBI single from 
Stefanie Guercio. Bella Spittler hit a base knock doubling the lead to 2-0. Naomi Alonzo hit a two-RBI single which allowed Guercio and Spittler to score making it 4-0. The Firebirds added two more runs with a single from Makenzie Miller as Carthage went on to take the game 6-1 over Augustana (Ill.) (4-18, 1-13 CCIW).

Rylee Johnson got the Firebirds on the board in game two with an RBI single in the second. It took until the fifth inning that the Vikings tied it at one however, Carthage plated five runs to go up 6-1 collecting the sweep. 

Next up, Carthage is back in action on Tuesday, April 13 playing North Central on the road at 3 p.m.
