No. 5 Women’s Volleyball Collects Fifth Win on Senior Day

KENOSHA, Wis. — The No. 5 Carthage College women's volleyball picked up another straight-set win over Augustana (Ill.) in the Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) action on Thursday evening. 

The first set was locked at nine until Augustana (Ill.) (1-6, 1-5 CCIW) went ahead 14-11. Carthage (5-1, 5-1 CCIW) battled back, tying it at 18 with a Vikings attack error. With the set even at 21, the Firebirds went on a quick 4-1 run to take the first set with back-to-back service aces from Nicole Acton. 

It was all Carthage in the second as the home team started with a 15-4 lead. Though Augustana (Ill.) got within six, two Vikings errors and a kill from Autumn McGee pushed the margin to 21-12. Carthage took the second set 25-15. 

In the final set of the day, a kill from Leena Ajibola made it 8-6 early on. After Augustana (Ill.) went ahead 11-10, the Firebirds put together a 10-6 run flipping the score to 20-16. Though the Vikings kept close with Carthage getting within two, a final kill from McGee sealed the straight-set victory 25-22.
