KENOSHA, Wis. — In the season home opener, the Carthage College softball team split the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) doubleheader against North Central (Ill.) taking the first game 2-0 before falling in the second 7-2 on Tuesday afternoon.
It was a scoreless game in game one until Carthage (3-3, 1-1 CCIW) broke the tie with an RBI double from Naomi Alonzo. Makenzie Miller followed with a single which extended the lead to 2-0. Senior pitcher
Stefanie Guercio closed the door for a North Central (Ill.) (4-6, 2-4 CCIW) on a Cardinals comeback striking out two and a groundout to end game one.
North Central (Ill.) retaliated in game two scoring in the first and second innings making it 3-1. A Cardinals throwing error allowed Angie Stepanski to score.
Izzy Hernandez followed with an RBI single cutting the margin to one at 3-2 however, the Cardinals used a four-run sixth inning to take the game 7-2.
Carthage is on the road again facing Millikin on Saturday, April 3 with game one starting at 1 p.m.
"Our defense let us down today. We will clean it up and adjust at the plate."
