Naomi Alonzo. Though UChicago (2-9) scored three and had bases loaded in the bottom half, a Maroons groundout sealed the victory for Carthage 5-3.
The Firebirds continued the momentum in the second game as a fielder's choice score Donna Stevens as the visitors held a 1-0 lead in the first inning. In the fourth, Makenzie Miller belted a solo home run and an RBI double from Hernandez as Carthage went on to take the game 3-0.
The Firebirds return home to start conference play facing North Central on Tuesday, March 30 starting at 3 p.m.
"It was nice to finally play again!! It is always good to get a sweep but we still have to tighten up our defense. Our pitchers did a good job today. Our offense did just enough but we need more consistency."
