Firebirds Host North Park for Spring Scrimmage

KENOSHA, Wis. — The Carthage College men's soccer team played in their first scheduled home competition of the spring, hosting North Park for a scrimmage on Friday night at Art Keller Field.

"Just two great teams out there today battling in a climate where everyone is inching towards true form," said head coach Steve Domin. "We have a ton of respect for North Park University and their soccer pedigree, so we went with a more traditional opening day lineup in an effort to equal their reach and ability."

"In our opening day match last week we went with a more scripted and structured approach, featuring different combos in sharing the minutes across the opening periods," said Domin. "But tonight we knew we couldn't get away with that, and played many of our varsity players."

"Frankly, the open periods had the feel of a CCIW Conference Tournament match, which I thought was of great benefit for both teams," said Domin. "We found out a lot about our team today and really were excited about some two-deep guys who played at another level, even in the varsity portion. There's no time to feel overly confident as we have to crawl into the bus to play a solid side in Augustana on the road."
