NAPERVILLE, Ill. — The Carthage College men's soccer team traveled to take on North Central in a scrimmage to open play in their 2021 spring season on Sunday.
"Wow, it's been over 500 days since we played another opponent and we all are so grateful for the opportunity," said head coach
Steve Domin. "After only 12 days of preseason, the rust reared its head in the later sessions, and frankly showed where some of our depth lines are."
The two teams played a varsity period in the opening 40 minutes, before taking each other on in a junior varsity and reserves period.
"In the varsity half we had, essentially, a brand new combination for an opening day lineup and didn't surrender a shot on goal while buzzing the tower often," said Domin. "I think the guys were a little disappointed we tied 0-0 when the varsity teams squared off, but it was a great starting point to benchmark, and North Central is a good team."
The Firebirds will return to campus next and host Wheaton College for an exhibition on Thursday, March 25 at 7:30 p.m.
