Men’s Lacrosse Remains Perfect After Strong Road Win

MEQUON, Wis. — The Carthage College men's lacrosse team hit the road for an afternoon game at Concordia (Wis.) on Wednesday, coming out on top with a 19-6 victory at Fitting Field.

The Firebirds (6-0) opened the contest with six unanswered goals in the first quarter, including a pair of scores from George Burchfield. Alec Gern responded to a Concordia (Wis.) (2-1) point before the home team scored once more to set the scoreboard at 7-2 at the end of the first period.

In the second quarter, Carthage netted six unanswered goals before a last-second score from Concordia made it 12-3 at the half. The Firebirds would hold their lead for the 13-point victory to maintain their unbeaten record to begin the 2021 season.

Carthage remains on the road this weekend when they head to Aurora University on Saturday, March 20 for a 1 p.m. game.

Head Coach David Neff

"It was our best team win of the year so far, everyone contributed today. Farina and the LSM's were great today on the wing with the faceoff guys, and we had big runs because of them. The emphasis in practice this week was to start being more aggressive in attacking the cage and getting more shots on the cage, and we obviously accomplished that today. All of the attack men did a great job and George Burchfield had the breakout game I have been waiting for from him. Coach Torrence has been doing a lot of work building the offense with these guys all year and today it paid dividends. We have a big one coming up on Saturday."
