Firebirds Drop Close Home Opener to DePauw

KENOSHA, Wis. — In their season home opener, the Carthage College women's lacrosse team fell in close competition to DePauw 15-14 in non-conference action on Saturday at Art Keller Field.

Carthage (1-1) got on the board first with two fast goals from Margaux Giacotto and Hanna Holloway until DePauw (1-2) scored five-straight to go up 5-2. Jessie Gibson and Giacotto found the back of the net to narrow the margin to one with 15:50 remaining in the first half. Gibson tallied her second goal of the game as the game was even at five. The Tigers regained the lead with three goals as the Firebirds headed into the intermission break trailing 8-5.

Four-straight goals for Carthage to start the second half flipped the score change to 9-8, however, DePauw responded with a lone goal to tie it at nine. With the scoreboard locked at 10, the Tigers added three-straight making it 14-10 with 7:38 left. Though Carthage got within one with a goal late, DePauw went on to win 15-14.

The Firebirds stay at home playing Concordia-Wisconsin on Saturday, March 20 at 1 p.m.
