Carthage Drops Home Game With Chicago

KENOSHA, Wis. — The Carthage women's basketball team dropped a 76-52 game against Chicago on Tuesday night in Tarble Arena.

While the Firebirds (1-1) were first on the scoreboard after a layup by Lauren Hermann, the Maroons (1-0) responded with a three moments later to take the lead. Another Hermann score followed by a three pointer from Chicago kept the game close, as Lauren Knight tied the game at six on a pair of free throws at the six-minute mark. The visitors would go on a run to take the lead, before Addison Ebeling connected on a three just before the end of the quarter to make it 14-12 in favor of the visitors. Midway through the second quarter, Chicago would take a 10-point lead, hitting a layup just before the halftime buzzer to set the score at 40-22 headed into the third quarter.

The Firebirds came out in the second half with a three-pointer from Hermann before Bridget Barrett cut the deficit to 13 with a jumper. However, the Maroons would hold a 20-point advantage by the end of the quarter, a lead they would hold through the final 10 minutes of play.

Carthage hits the road this weekend for the St. Norbert Tournament, taking on the hosts in game one on Friday, November 12 at 7 p.m.

Head Coach Tim Bernero

"We were unable to stop them defensively. They did a great job shooting the ball on offense. We need to continue to get better, and we're only two games in. I expect us to bounce back and be ready for this weekend."
