Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Firebirds Drop Final Road Contest to Illinois Wesleyan

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — In the last road game of the season, the Carthage College women's soccer team fell to Illinois Wesleyan in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) action on Saturday at Neis Field. 

The Titans (9-7-1, 7-1 CCIW) scored three minutes into the contest taking the early lead. The home team added five more goals to go up 6-0 into the halftime break. Morgan Verbeten put a shot on frame in the 60th minute of the second half for the Firebirds (5-12, 3-5 CCIW) but it was saved by the Titans keeper. After Illinois Wesleyan scored, two shots from Faith Roberts and Amelia Price were saved keeping the score at 7-0. Though Erin Otto, McKenna Wallin, Katie Cochran, and Verbeten all had shots at the goal, the Titans won the game 8-0. 

Quick Facts

  • Morgan Verbeten and Leah Martin each had two shots on goal in the contest.
  • Goalkeeper Sara Lieffrig made seven saves and closed out her career at Carthage with 205 saves, which is fourth in the Carthage record book.
