Reilly Scores Game Winner in 2OT Victory

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — The Carthage men's soccer team picked up their 10th win of the season as they defeated Case Western Reserve Friday afternoon at Indiana Invaders Sports Complex.

Case Western Reserve (6-5) got on the board first as a penalty kick goal gave the Spartans a 1-0 lead heading into the halftime break. The Firebirds (10-5-2) tied it with a goal from Aidan Crowder as he worked around the defender in the box and hit a shot that hit the back of the net tying it at one. The Spartans quickly responded a minute later as a ball into the penalty box was put away making it 2-1. In the 87th minute, Nick Renfro scored and forced overtime off a free kick from 22 yards out.

After both teams tallied a shot in the first overtime session, Mickey Reilly scored the winning goal for Carthage as he collected his rebound off a free kick and connected on a shot from inside the box for the 3-2 victory.

The Firebirds stay on the road facing Wisconsin-Platteville on Sunday, October 24 beginning at 1 p.m.
