The Carthage Homecoming 5K race took place last Saturday, with 2018 graduate Dan Cotton taking first place after nearly breaking 16 minutes.

"This was a great way to kick off Saturday's Homecoming festivities," said men's cross country and track and field coach Josh Henry. "It was pretty special to gather current students, alumni, and parents together for one event."
 
A member of the Carthage cross country and track and field teams from 2014 to 2018, Cotton was first to cross the finish line with 16:02 on the clock, with fellow teammate and 2019 graduate Camren Howard on his heels at 16:08. The top female finisher was current senior Laura Sanders, who finished in 20:33.1, with her teammate Katelyn Smith taking second for the women with a time of 21:05.9.
 
"Homecoming was certainly special this year," said women's cross country and track and field coach Stephanie Domin. "It was so nice to see so many alumni and current students start off the weekend at our 5K. I had so much fun running in the event and the conversations kept me going. I look forward to keeping this tradition going for many years to come."
 
"We were extremely impressed to draw 116 finishers to the inaugural event," said Henry. "We plan to make this a staple event for all future Carthage Homecoming weekends and hope to see everyone back next year. For those that couldn't join us this year, mark your calendars for 2022!"
