Carthage Drops Overtime Battle with Wheaton

KENOSHA, Wis. — After taking the lead midway through the first half, the Carthage men's soccer team would fall in a tough match with Wheaton 2-1 in overtime on Wednesday night at Art Keller Field.

The Firebirds (7-5-2, 1-3-1 CCIW) hit the scoreboard first, as Danny Eloyza took a free kick from just outside the box and found Mason McCaw who connected for the goal. After each team continued to threaten to score, the Thunder (7-3-1, 2-2-1 CCIW) were the ones to find the back of the net, drawing the match even at 1-1 with just over three minutes left in regulation. In the first overtime period, Wheaton scored seven minutes into the action to take the win.

Up next for Carthage is a home match with Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Sunday, October 17 at 1 p.m.
