Firebirds Post Second Straight Home Victory

KENOSHA, Wis. — The Carthage College women's volleyball team picked up another home victory on Sunday afternoon with a 3-2 win over North Park at Tarble Arena.  

Liv Carel connected on a kill putting Carthage (14-9, 4-1 CCIW) up 8-5 in set one. After North Park (13-7, 1-4 CCIW) tied it at 11, the Vikings went out in front 17-11 with an ace. The home team used a five-point swing to get within one with an ace from Molly Skoda and a kill from Carel. The Firebirds then tied the set at 21 with back-to-back kills from Nicole Acton and Skoda. Though the set was locked at 23, the visitors won set one with two attack errors 25-23. 

It was a back-and-forth set to start until North Park took control with a 12-9 advantage off an attack error. Carthage retaliated with seven unanswered points changing the score to 16-12. After the score was tied at 19, a 6-2 run for the home team gave them the set 25-21. 

A bad set in the third put the Firebirds ahead 10-9 early on. The Vikings put together an 11-2 run flipping the score to 20-12 as the visitors won the set 25-15. 

In the fourth, a kill from Skoda put Carthage up 10-4. Another 11-4 run for the home team extended the lead to 21-13 as the Firebirds forced a fifth set 25-16.

After the scoreboard was tied at four, Carthage outscored North Park 11-4 and won the game with a final kill from Acton 15-8. 

Carthage stays at home facing No. 19 UChicago on Tuesday, October 12 beginning at 7 p.m.

"It was an exciting CCIW match! North Park has some very talented young players! Molly Skoda and Liv Carel were clutch on the outside today. Leena Ajibola and Nicole Acton came up big in set five and Jenna Millen had a very good all-around match. It was good to see us get our block going a bit. We will need it this week!"

 

Quick Facts

  • Molly Skoda led the way for Carthage in kills recording a new career-high with 19. 
  • Jenna Millen also registered a new career-best in assists with 51. Millen ranks fourth in the conference in assists coming into today's contest while collecting 12 digs today. 
  • Haley Horner and Liv Carel finished with double-digit kills finishing with 15 and 11 respectively. 
  • Nicole Acton tallied five blocks along with Skoda and Leena Ajibola adding four.
