Clermont, Fla. — The No. 20 Carthage College softball team picked up wins over Becker 12-0 and Dubuque 2-0 on the second day of their spring trip on Monday at Hancock Park.
The Lady Reds (4-0) started with a single in game one from Naomi Alonzo which allowed Emmily Zinkiewicz to score. Carthage broke the game open with a seven-run second to move the lead to 8-0 over Becker (1-5). The Lady Reds scored three more runs to take the game 12-0.
In game two, Carthage got on the board first with a single from Ellie Bernero. Donna Stevens doubled the lead with a solo home run to make the score 2-0. Stefanie Guercio pitched out of a jam in the top of the seventh with a Spartans (5-3) flyout and back-to-back groundouts to win 2-0.
Day three of the spring trip begins on Tuesday, March 10 taking on Marietta at 8:15 a.m. CST at Legends Way Park.
"It was great to get the offense going in the first game and get everyone involved. Dubuque is a very good team, we did just enough to win. We have to play better defense but that's what this week is for. I'm very happy with our start to the season!"
