Carthage Stays Unbeaten After Day Three in Florida

Clermont, Fla. — The No. 20 Carthage College softball team continued their winning ways picking up victories over Marietta 7-5 and Monmouth 5-0 on Tuesday at Legends Way Park.

The Pioneers (3-2) plated a lone run in the opening frame before scoring three in the second to go up 3-0 in game one. The Lady Reds (6-0) retaliated with a five-run fifth sparked by a two RBI double by Emmily Zinkiewicz and an RBI single from Courtney Polanski to flip the score to 5-4 in favor of the home team. A double from Naomi Alonzo scored Zinkiewicz and Rylee Johnson as Carthage took the game 7-5.

The Lady Reds momentum carried over into the second game as Carthage went up 2-0 in the first. Ellie Benero singled to right center in the fifth that allowed Alonzo to come across the plate to extend the advantage to three before a Scots (1-6) error allowed Danielle Koziczkowski to touch home switching the score to 4-0. A single from Johnson was deep enough to score Kelsey Domagala as Carthage won 5-0.

Next up, the Lady Reds face Mount St. Joseph on Wednesday, March 11 starting at 8 a.m. CST at Legends Way Park.

Head Coach Amy Gillmore

"We didn't play well in all three phases today but we picked it up where we needed to! That's a nice of a good team!! I'm very happy with two W's."
