Carthage Baseball Outlasts Marian (Wis.), 13-10, on March 9 at the Tucson Invitational

Red Men Take on Bethany Lutheran on Thursday

The Carthage College baseball team (3-1) outlasted Marian University (Wis., 1-4), 13-10, on Monday, March 9 in Tucson, Ariz.  The game was the fourth-of-eight games for the Red Men at the Tucson Invitational.

Carthage took a 1-0 lead in the first inning and added a run in the second.  The Sabres scored five times in the third to take a 5-2 lead.  The Red Men got two runs back in the fourth to narrow the gap to a run, 5-4.  Marian went up, 7-4, in the fifth inning before Carthage pulled to within a run again, 7-6, in the seventh.  A seven-run outburst in the eighth inning gave the Red Men a six-run lead, 13-7.  Bryce Prybylinski and Jake Snider both hit two-run doubles in the eighth.

Things got interesting in the ninth.  Carthage closer Jacob DeLabio walked the first two batters he faced before giving way to Chance Roach.  The Sabres scored three times to make it a 13-10 contest, but Carthage hung on for the win.

Red Men hurler Kyle Damon started the game and worked the first three innings, followed by Pasquale Atteo in the fourth and Nate Odahl in the eighth.  Odahl (1-0) worked a clean inning to pick up the win.  Tim Dziergas (0-1), the third-of-five Sabre pitchers, took the loss.

The Red Men pounded out 19 hits, including six doubles and a triple.  Cody Tostrud went four-for-five with a double, two runs scored and two RBI.  Bryce Prybylinski went three-for-six with a double, a triple and three runs scored, and Johnny Belskis had three hits in four trips with a double and two runs scored.

Following two days off, Carthage returns to action on Thursday, March 12 with a 9 a.m., MST contest against Bethany Lutheran College (0-6).
