Clermont, Fla. — The No. 20 Carthage College softball squad began the 2020 season with a pair of victories over Haverford 5-1 and Nebraska Wesleyan 1-0 on Sunday at Legends Way Fields.
The Lady Reds (2-0) broke game one open as Marissa Maldonado got the scoring started with a single deep enough to score
Danielle Koziczkowski from third.
Ellie Bernero singled through the left side to score
Kelsey Domagala to make it 2-0 over the Fords (0-1). A bases clearing double from
Donna Stevens made it 5-0 before Carthage took the win 5-1.
In the late afternoon game, neither side did not tally a run through seven innings of play. In extra innings, Naomi Alonzo hit a walk-off double to left center which allowed Koziczkowski to score from second to take the victory.
Carthage returns to the diamond Monday, March 9 taking on Becker at 10:30 a.m. and Dubuque at 12:45 p.m.
