Carthage Sweeps Millikin for Sixth Straight Win

DECATUR, lll. — The No. 11 Carthage College men's volleyball team swept Millikin 3-0 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin action Saturday at the Griswold Center.

The Red Men (11-3, 5-0 CCIW) started with an 11-5 advantage in set one before using a 14-6 run to take the first set over the Big Blue (3-15, 1-6 CCIW) 25-11. Millikin bounced back in the second jumping out to a 6-3 margin but the visitors battled back to tie it at nine. Another 16-8 run gave Carthage a two-set lead 25-17 with Millikin service error. In the final set, the Red Men went up 14-9 until a Big Blue attack error and an ace from Eric Winter pushed the margin to 17-12. Millikin rallied to get as close as four, however, a kill by Peyton Wieter gave Carthage the sweep 25-20.

The Red Men stay on the road facing North Park on Wednesday, March 11 beginning at 7 p.m.

Head Coach JW Kieckhefer

"Great win by us today and getting conference wins on the road are always a battle. Really proud of the way Mik Brunovskis and Peyton Weiter played offensively. Eric Winter continues to be solid for us both with his blocking and offense and it opens up our pins to score at a high rate. We did a nice job digging balls in the back court and extending some rallies. Excited to continue our hot streak!"
