Carthage Rally Falls Short at Southwestern

Georgetown, Texas — The Carthage College women's lacrosse rallied late but fell in close competition to Southwestern 19-17 on Tuesday at Varsity Fields.

The Pirates (4-2) started the game with a one goal lead until back-to-back goals from Hanna Holloway and Jessie Gibson switched the score to 3-2 in favor of the Lady Reds (4-3). Southwestern retaliated with two goals of their own to go back up in front until the Pirates added three more goals to put the home team up 7-4. Two-straight goals from Margaux Giacotto shrank the margin to one heading into the intermission break.

In the second half, Southwestern extended the advantage to 12-8 however, six unanswered goals for Carthage put the visitors back in control 14-12. After the Pirates responded with three goals of their own, the Lady Reds kept the margin to one until a goal from Jessie Gibson tied it at 16. Although Maddie Berni found the back of the net late, Southwestern came away with the victory 19-17.
