Hot Second Half Fuels Carthage Over Huntingdon 17-8

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Outscoring their opponents 8-1 in the second half, the Carthage men's lacrosse team took down Huntingdon College 17-8 on Tuesday at Samford Stadium.

After winning the faceoff, the Red Men (5-1) marched down the field on their first possession and scored quickly to take a lead they would hold all game. After assisting Noah Lindner on the first goal, Colin Poitras would score the second for the Red Men on an assist from Robert Dakan. Just one minute later, John Farina-Morelos would score his first goal of the season to make it 3-0 with eight minutes left in the quarter. As the period wound down the two teams traded scores, with goals from William Clemens and Farina-Morelos setting the scoreboard at 6-1 by the end of the first frame.

The Hawks (4-6) scored first to open the second quarter before Lindner quickly retaliated with one of his own. After owning a five-point lead with just under twelve minutes remaining in the half, Huntingdon would eventually cut it to two by the halftime break, 9-7.

Carthage's quick scoring continued in the third period, as Farina-Morelos opened up with a goal before Poitras added two more within the first three minutes. The Red Men would add four more in the quarter, capped off by yet another score from Farina-Morelos, putting Carthage up 16-7 on a 7-0 third frame. In the final 15 minutes of play, Poitras would find Brad Dodds before the defense held the Hawks to just one goal, solidifying their victory 17-8 at the final buzzer.

The Red Men cap off their spring break road trip on Thursday, March 12 when they take on Centre College in Danville, Ky. at 6:30 p.m.
