BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — The No. 6 seed Carthage College men's basketball team fell in a close contest to the No. 3 seed Illinois Wesleyan 74-67 in the Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Men's Basketball quarterfinals Tuesday at the Shirk Center.
The Red Men (15-11, 7-9 CCIW) jumped out to a 17-10 lead in the first half with a layup from
Brad Perry. A jumper by Perry at the 10:01 mark pushed the advantage to eight at 21-13 until the Titans (18-8, 11-5 CCIW) put together a 12-3 run to switch the score to 25-24. The lead would not grow greater than three for either side as Carthage took a 34-32 margin into the intermission break.
Illinois Wesleyan started the second with a 28-11 run to go up 60-45 with 10 minutes remaining. The Red Men responded shrinking the deficit to five with a 20-8 run of their own. A layup and jumper from Kienan Baltimore cut it to 70-67 but the Titans would get to the line to take the victory 74-67.
"The first 10 minutes of the second half really determined the game. We came out of the locker room a little flat and missed some good looks. I couldn't be prouder of the way we battled back those last 10 minutes. Thanks to the six seniors for everything they've done the past four years."
