Red Men Suffer First Home Loss of the Season

KENOSHA, Wis. — The No. 18 Carthage College men's basketball team fell to Augustana (Ill.) 84-68 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) action Saturday evening at Tarble Arena.

The Red Men (9-3, 1-2 CCIW) jumped out to a quick 6-0 start with a jumper from Sean Johnson, a pair of free throws by Brad Perry, and score by Jordon Kedrowski in the first two and a half minutes of play. After eight unanswered by the Vikings (8-4, 2-1 CCIW) the two teams began trading scores, reaching 12-all with just over 11 minutes remaining in the period. However, the visitors would begin to pull away, going out in front 27-16 with seven minutes left in the half. Augustana would take a 48-30 advantage into the lockers for halftime.

The Vikings continued the momentum extending the margin to 19 at the 16:48 mark. Carthage battled back shrinking the deficit to nine with a jumper from Fillip Bulatovic, however Augustana continued to apply pressure switching the score to 75-58. The Vikings went on to take the win 84-68.

The Red Men continue conference play traveling to face Carroll (Wis.) on Wednesday, January 8 at 7 p.m.

Head Coach Bosko Djurickovic

"Disappointing start to the New Year portion of the CCIW schedule. Got off to a good start but we weren't able to sustain against an excellent Augustana team. Tough road week ahead. We need to get back at it on Monday."
