KENOSHA, Wis. — The No. 6 Carthage College men's volleyball team swept Illinois Institute of Technology at home 3-0 for their second straight victory to start the season on Saturday afternoon at Tarble Arena.
The Scarlet Hawks (0-1) went up 4-1 to start before the Red Men (2-0) fought back to go up 7-4 in set one. Carthage pushed the lead to 16-9 with a kill from
Matt Slivinski. Following a timeout, Carthage put together a 6-3 run for a one-set lead 25-13. It was a back-and-forth effort in set two with the Red Men holding a 18-15 margin. Illinois Tech got as close as four until a kill from
Parker Connolly gave Carthage a two-set lead 25-20. The Red Men started the final set with a 6-2 lead before growing the score to 16-6 with a 10-4 run. Carthage went on to take the third 25-10 with a final kill from
Eric Winter.
The Red Men hit the road for the first away match of the season traveling to MSOE on Wednesday, January 29 at 7 p.m.
"I was really happy with our service pressure this weekend. Another night of being close to even in the ace to error ratio while serving aggressively is impressive. We need to maintain that all season if we want to continue to stay competitive.
I thought our effort on defense was outstanding and if we continue to do that we will be tough to beat."
