Red Men Pick Up Home Overtime Victory over Millikin

KENOSHA, Wis. — The Carthage College men's basketball team used overtime to defeat Millikin 92-89 Saturday evening at Tarble Arena.

While the Red Men (11-5, 3-4 CCIW) struck first with a three from Crishawn Cook, Millikin (4-13,1-7 CCIW) would claim the lead minutes later 10-8 on a make from deep of their own. After the visitors climbed out to a 23-8 lead, Preston Laketa sunk a three to cut into the deficit, with Michael Huff eventually sinking yet another three for Carthage to make it a four-point game moments later. The Big Blue would extend their lead as the half came to a close, eventually taking a 43-32 advantage into the lockers for halftime.

Millikin grew their lead to 12 to start the second half before the Red Men climbed back into the game shrinking the deficit to two with a jumper from Fillip Bulatovic. The Big Blue increased the lead back to seven at the 11:13 mark before Carthage put together a 10-4 run to cut it to 65-64 with 7:56 left. The Millikin margin did not extend more than four over the next five minutes when a three pointer from Cook forced overtime tied at 80.

Carthage used the momentum to outscore the Big Blue in the overtime period. The Red Men collected a five point lead with a pair of free throws from Brad Perry and later sealed the victory with a block from Cook at the buzzer to take the 92-89 win.

Carthage hits the road facing North Park on Wednesday January, 22 starting at 7 p.m.

Head Coach Bosko Djurickovic

"Not all games are pretty. Couldn't be happier to persevere and pull one out. Millikin played excellent and deserves a lot of credit. Need to have a good few days of practice for North Park on Wednesday."
