Second Half Surge Propels Lady Reds Past Hornets

KENOSHA, Wis. -- The Carthage College women's soccer team collected a 3-1 victory over Kalamazoo (0-1-1) Saturday afternoon at Art Keller Field.

After a scoreless first half, Morgan Verbeten scored to give the Lady Reds a 1-0 advantage. A minute later, the Hornets tied the game back at one. Verbeten scored the next two goals in the 68th and 72nd minute to give the Lady Reds the 3-1 victory. 

Carthage (2-0) will be back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 4 facing DePauw in Greencastle, Ind. at 7 p.m.

  • Morgan Verbeten found the back of the net three times today, matching her goal total from last year as a freshman.
  • The sophomore recorded the first hat trick for Carthage in six years to the day when Corinne Brennan did it against Elizabethtown.
  • Both Verbeten and Brennan scored all three of their goals in the second half.
  • The Lady Reds registered 10 shots on goal.
