KENOSHA, WIS.—The Carthage College softball team's final week of the 2019 regular season has them hosting five doubleheaders, which began with a Tuesday-affair against Carroll University at the Carthage College Softball Field.
Kelsey Domagala's five hits at the plate, and
Stefanie Guercio's 19 strikeouts on the day propelled the Lady Reds to 4-1 and 4-3 victories over the Pioneers.

The sweep gives the Lady Reds a 20-8, 8-4 CCIW record while Carroll falls to 21-14, 7-5 CCIW. The wins put Carthage alone in second place, four games behind Illinois Wesleyan.

The Pioneers executed a double-steal in the first inning that resulted in a 1-0 lead before Carthage stormed back with four unanswered runs.
Donna Stevens' solo home run in the bottom of the first inning tied the score 1-1 before she tacked on a third-inning run, when she walked and scored from first off a Carroll throwing error that gave Carthage a 2-1 lead. The Lady Reds exploited another Carroll throwing error in the fourth inning, when
Brooke Byas added a run to push the lead to 3-1.

Kelsey Domagala put the finishing touches on her 3-for-3 day in the fifth inning, when her infield single plated
Ellie Bernero (single) en route to a 4-1 cushion.

Stefanie Guercio notched 12 strikeouts, allowed six hits and one walk in the complete-game pitching victory. Amanda Osterhus tallied eight strikeouts in the complete-game pitching loss for Carroll. Domagala paced Carthage at the plate with three hits.

Brooke Sefcik set the tone with a first-inning sacrifice fly that plated Bernero (reached on error) from third base, which gave Carthage a 1-0 lead. Pioneers pitcher Kaylee Learman helped herself with a second-inning solo home run that knotted the game 1-1.

Both teams traded fourth innings runs to make the score 2-2 before the Lady Reds' two runs in the fifth inning gave them a 4-2 cushion.
Courtney Polanski (Millett scored) and Bernero (Polanski scored) each notched RBI-singles for Carthage in the fifth frame. Katlyn Schneider's seventh-inning home run cut the Lady Reds' lead to 4-3, where things stayed final.

Naomi Alonzo (3 innings) and
Stefanie Guercio (four innings) saw action in the pitching circle. Guercio tallied seven strikeouts and allowed three hits in the winning effort, while Domagala led Carthage at the plate again with a 2-for-2 outing.
