Carroll Invitational Results in Second-Place Finish For Lady Reds

WAUKESHA, WIS.—The Carthage College women's track & field team competed at the Carroll University Invitational on Saturday afternoon, where they were originally slated to compete at the Benedictine Relays before backing out due to scheduling conflicts. The Lady Reds prevailed with a second-place standing out of 10 teams with 135 points. St. Norbert College claimed the team championship with 184 points.
 
The distance runners  were highlighted by Johnelle Miner, who pulled down second place out of 21 competitors in the 1500 meter run with a 5:01.73. Laura Sanders continued the second-place trend for the Cathage distance runners with a 11:25.86 in the 300 meter run, where Kathryn McKinnon followed in third place with a 12:10.07. The pole vault also resulted in a second-place Carthage finisher as Julia Cozzi eclipsed a 3.10m.
 
Janelle Taylor fired on all cylinders for the Lady Reds sprinters with a four-place mark of 27.94 in the 200 meter dash, and a fifth-place tally of 13.34 in the 100 meter dash. Taylor and teammates Brittany Lee, Ashley Proksa and Tyrani White notched a 51.59 in the 4x100 meter relay, good enough for fourth place. White and Lee displayed their two-way prowess as they also competed in the 4x400 meter relay with Janna Hollingsworth and Eva Manzulli, where they clocked-in fourth place with a 4:22.83. White continued on the individual front with a 10.78m in the triple jump, good enough for third place.
 
The throwing events weren't out of the ordinary as Sarah Schmidt (12.85m) and Elizabeth Willis (12.46m) claimed the top-two spots on the shot put podium. Schmidt (44.94m) and Willis (42.29m) accomplished that same feat in the discus, where teammate Kathryn Milschewski took fourth with a 35.45m.
 
The dynamic duo reversed their fortunes in the hammer throw, where Willis claimed the title with a 53.42m, followed by Schmidt's 49.93m. The javelin was all Aubrey Tesch, who took fourth with a 33.21m.
 
The Lady Reds will compete at the Wheaton College Twilight on Thursday, April 18 in Wheaton, Illinois.
