KENOSHA, WIS. — The Carthage College women's and men's track and field teams competed at home for the Final Qualifier meet at the Tarble Recreation Center Fieldhouse in Kenosha, Wisconsin on Friday March 1. Shot put and weight throw were the highlights for the women's side, as for the men; the weight throw and 200-meter race were the strongest events.
The Lady Reds placed third in five events including: the 200-meter race (
Sonja Katt, 29:10), the 3000-meter run (
Brianna Kloster, 11:34:59), weight throw (
Sarah Schmidt, 15.90), the 400-meter race (
Sonja Katt, 1:07:13), and the 5000-meter run (
Katelyn Smith, 19:19:61).
Aubrey Tesch (1.50m),
Sarah Schmidt (13.25m), and Kate Willie (11:07:08) notched on to second place in the high jump, shot put, and the 3000-meter run.
As for first place finishes the Lady Reds had six competitors to win the gold, starting with
Elizabeth Willis, which conquered the weight throw and shot put, with a toss of 17.72 meters and 13.77 meters.
Brittany Lee cruised passed the competition running a 1:02:84 in the 400-meter race.
Johnelle Miner held her own in the one mile run, with a time of 5:26:86.
Carly Egan kept the trend alive with running an 18:58:63 in the 5000 meter race.
Tyrani White high jumped 1.53 meters to wrap up the first place finishes.
The Red Men had three notable finishes, with
Aaron Austin securing first place in the weight throw with a mark of 17.77 meters.
Lucas Lieb (23:64) and
Jacob Boucher (23:76) the 200-meter duo crossed the finish line placing second and third.
The Lady Reds and Red Men will compete in the Wartburg College Qualifier in Waverly, Iowa on Saturday, March 2, with the final hope of qualifying for the 2019 NCAA Division III Track and Field Championship at UMass Boston on March 8-9.
