Pioneers and Vikings Next For Red Men

FULL GAME NOTES


THE GAMES

  • The Carthage College men's basketball team (7-14, 2-10 CCIW) will hit the road for a pair of games this week, beginning with Carroll University (9-13, 5-8 CCIW) on Wednesday, February 6 at 7:00 p.m. The Red Men will pay North Park University (4-17, 2-10 CCIW) a visit on Saturday, February 9 at 7:00 p.m.
  • Kienan Baltimore, who carries 929 career points, is 71 away from eclipsing 1,000 for his career. 
  • The Pioneers will enter Wednesday with a two-game win streak that includes decisions over Wheaton (77-70) and Millikin (83-80). 
  • Carroll's defense paces the CCIW in steals (153) and steals per game (7.0). However, the Pioneers rank toward the bottom of NCAA Division III in blocked shots per game (1.5), totals blocks (34) and total rebounds (643). 
  • Offensively, the Pioneers have two players averaging double-figures in Nick Penny (10.5 PPG.) and Tyler Ingebrigtsen (10.0). 
  • The most notable opponent on Carroll's 2018-19 schedule is defending national champion Nebraska Wesleyan, who squeaked out a 70-64 victory over the Pioneers on November 16. 
  • The North Park Vikings rank last in the CCIW among 10 different categories, but are well disciplined as they carry the fewest fouls in the CCIW (317). 
  • Three players average in double-figures scoring for the VIkings in Toby Marek (11.6), Vegard Tangen (10.8) and Matt Szuba (10.7). Szuba also carries a CCIW-leading 6.7 defensive rebounds per game and sports a team-leading 20 steals and 25 blocks. 
  • The Vikings will enter their game against Elmhurst on Wednesday with a nine-game losing skid. 

THE COACHES

  • Paul Combs (294-226) is in his sixth season as Carroll head men's basketball coach.
  • Tom Slyder (168-191) is in his seventh season as North Park head men's basketball coach.

THE SERIES

  • The Red Men are 45-33 all-time against Carroll, and 56-57 against North Park.
