KENOSHA, WIS.—The first CCIW Women's Basketball Semifinal game on Friday pitted the #3 Carthage College women's basketball team vs. #2 seed Illinois Wesleyan University in a neutral-site bout at Wheaton College's King Arena. After shooting just .286 (6-21) in the first half, the Lady Reds battled back and finished the game with a .408 (20-49) mark, but it wasn't enough in a 78-59 loss to the Titans.

"We gave them a head-start we couldn't come back from, which is disappointing," said Lady Reds head basketball coach
Tim Bernero. "It's not like we didn't know how good they (Illinois Wesleyan) were as we just saw them three weeks ago. We just let go early, which forced us to chase them for most of the game. They're the type of team you can't put yourselves in a position to chase or you'll end up on the wrong end like we were tonight."

Autumn Kalis paced the Lady Reds with 13 points, three 3-point field goals made and tied for a game-high six rebounds.
Bailey Gilbert finished with 11 points, four rebounds and three assists in her final collegiate contest. Four Illinois Wesleyan players reached double figures, led by Maddie Merritt's 19 points and six boards.

The Lady Reds conclude their 2018-19 campaign with a 17-10, 10-6 CCIW record while Illinois Wesleyan moves to the CCIW Championship Game with a 22-4 record.

The Lady Reds couldn't find momentum in the first half as Illinois Wesleyan cruised to a 34-16 advantage at intermission. Carthage bounced back with a .500 (14-28) field goal percentage and seven three-point field goals made in the second half. Unfortunately, Illinois Wesleyan matched that total with a .500 (17-34) second-half field goal percentage, which resulted in their largest lead of the game at 76-47 with 4:41 left in the fourth. The Lady Reds closed the game with a 12-2 run from that point, but time was the enemy in a 78-59 loss.
