#3 Lady Reds To Host #6 Elmhurst in CCIW Play-In Game

THE GAMES

  • The #3 seed Carthage College women's basketball team's (16-9, 10-6 CCIW) second-consecutive CCIW Women's Basketball Tournament appearance will begin on Tuesday, February 19 at 7:00 p.m., where they'll host #6 seed Elmhurst College (10-15, 6-10 CCIW). A Lady Reds victory will send them to the CCIW Semifinal at Wheaton's King Arena on Friday, February 22 against #2 seed Illinois Wesleyan University at 5:00 p.m. The lowest remaining seed will square-off against CCIW-Tournament host and #1 seed Wheaton College in the other semifinal match at 7:00 p.m.
  • The Lady Reds, who own a 6-11 all-time record in the CCIW Tournament, will eye their third CCIW Tournament Championship, and first since 2013-14. 
  • Carthage leads the CCIW in all three-point field goal categories. This includes three-point field goal percentage (.375), three-point field goals per game (8.8), three-point field goals made (212), three-point field goals attempted (565) and three-point field goal defense (.288). 
  • The Elmhurst Bluejays rank last in the CCIW and towards the bottom of NCAA Division III in defensive rebounds per game (23.0) and blocked shots (28). Their 509 fouls and 21.2 personal fouls per game also rank last in the CCIW.
  • The Bluejays don't have one player averaging double-figures scoring in 2018-19. Lisa Logan paces Elmhurst in scoring with 9.0 points per game, and rebounding with 5.7 boards per game. Kellee Clay (8.5 PPG.) and Marissa Urso (8.0 PPG.) are the other key cogs in the Bluejays' lineup.

  • Tethnie Carrillo (123-142) is in her 12th season as Elmhurst head women's basketball coach.

THE SERIES

  • The Lady Reds are 58-18 all-time against Elmhurst. Carthage swept the Bluejays by scores of 92-62 on December 8, and 67-59 on January 23 this season.
