KENOSHA, WIS.—A west-coast foe invaded Tarble Arena on Friday night as the #3 Carthage College men's volleyball team awaited #12 California Lutheran University. Strong runs over the beginning of each of the three sets propelled the Red Men to a 3-0 sweep over the Kingsmen.
Â
Evan Walsh posted a game-high 12 kills while teammate
Matt Reinsel fed him with 42 assists for Carthage.
Eric Winter, who registered seven kills and a game-high .500 hitting percentage on the evening, powered a Carthage attacking unit that posted a .303 figure. Reigning CCIW Offensive Player of the Week
Braeden Waumans and
Matt Slivinski each tallied nine kills, followed by
Parker Connolly's eight.
Â
The Red Men defense held Cal Lutheran to just .194 hitting, and reigning CCIW Defensive Player of the Week
Kai Cromwell had a lot to do with that with 12 digs. Waumans displayed his two-way prowess with 10 digs in addition to his offensive contributions. The Carthage defense topped out at 47 digs and 13 blocks on the night.
Â
The Red Men stay undefeated at 6-0, 0-0 MCVL while Cal Lutheran falls to 4-4.

The Red Men took care of the first set 25-22. An early 11-5 Carthage run got away from them after three-straight attack errors narrowed their lead to 11-8. Three key kills from Slivinski down the stretch propelled Carthage to the 25-22 set-one victory.
Â
The Red Men's balanced offense helped them jump to a 15-3 lead in set two as five different players contributed kills throughout the run. It was enough cushion in Carthage's 25-17 set-two victory.
Â
Set three resulted in a quick 9-3 lead for the Red Men, but 11 errors on their part helped Cal Lutheran cut their deficit to 22-20. The Kingsmen couldn't get closer as Carthage held onto the 25-22 win in set three.

The Red Men will host Lakeland University on Saturday, February 2 at 1:00 p.m.
