No. 21 Carthage Knocks Off No. 19 North Central

KENOSHA, Wis. — The No. 21 Carthage College men's basketball team picked up their first Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) win over No. 19 North Central (Ill.) 83-81 Wednesday evening in Tarble Arena.

The Red Men (6-0, 1-0 CCIW) jumped out to a 17-8 lead over the Cardinals (4-3, 0-1 CCIW). A layup from Crishawn Cook capped off a 13-2 run to make the score 30-10. North Central (Ill.) retaliated with a 20-5 run of their own shrinking the deficit to five with 5:25 left in the first half. The Cardinals later took the lead off a three point jumper switching the score to 39-37 in favor of North Central (Ill.) until Carthage responded with a quick 7-0 run to go into the intermission break up 44-39. 

Three ties and five lead changes happened to start the second half with Carthage holding a 63-56 margin with nine minutes left in regulation. A three pointer from TJ Best extended the Carthage lead to 13 at 74-61. The Cardinals crawled back to get within one with 26 seconds left until Kienan Baltimore sank a free throw to give the Red Men the 83-81 victory.  

The Red Men continue conference play on Saturday, December 7 traveling to face Illinois Wesleyan at 7 p.m.

  • Carthage shot 33-of-55 (60%) from the field today, the second time they've hit that mark this season (68.8% vs. Greenville).
  • Jordon Kedrowski hit the 20-point mark for the third time this season, and is now averaging 18.8 per game.
  • Besides Kedrowski, three other Red Men finished with double-digit points: Crishawn Cook (16), Sean Johnson (14) and Fillip Bulatovic (10)
  • Johnson is averaging a double-double on the season with 15.0 points per game and 10.7 rebounds per game.
