No. 4 Lady Reds Beat Elmhurst in Straight Sets for Seventh Straight Home Victory

KENOSHA, Wis. — The No. 4 Carthage College women's volleyball team picked up their seventh straight home victory with a 3-0 straight-set win over Elmhurst in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) play Wednesday evening at Tarble Arena.

Carthage (19-1, 5-0 CCIW) started the match with an 11-7 lead. An 8-2 run by the Lady Reds forced an Elmhurst (7-12, 2-1 CCIW) timeout with the score at 19-8. The Bluejays rallied late getting as close as seven before the Lady Reds took the first set 25-17. Elmhurst jumped out to a slim 7-5 lead to start set two before Carthage rallied to tie the game at 8 and later took control of the set at 18-17. The Bluejays scored four straight to narrow the gap to 24-23 until a kill from Shannon Kebisek sealed the set for Carthage. The Lady Reds continued the momentum in the third set holding a 15-9 margin. Carthage went on to take the match by a score of 25-14.

Carthage hits the road on Saturday, October 12 facing Carroll (Wis.) at 6 p.m.

Head Coach Leanne Ulmer

"Really good team win tonight against a tough Elmhurst team. We were tough defensively tonight, not many blocks but a lot of digs and hustle plays. Autumn McGee was really good all the way around. Megan Behrendt and Shannon Kebisek really were tough tonight and got some big kills. Laura de Rosales had her best night defensively and passing. She also had some service runs for us. Nicole Acton was active again at the net making it tough for their block. Ellie LeCount served great tonight and that keep their offense from getting good runs."
