No. 4 Lady Reds Sweep Vikings in CCIW Matchup

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — The No. 4 Carthage College women's volleyball team defeated Augustana (Ill.) in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) action Wednesday at Roy J. Carver Center.

Carthage (23-3, 7-0 CCIW) jumped out in the match 10-4 before the Lady Reds took the set 25-13. Carthage continued the momentum in the second set with a 14-10 advantage. Augustana (Ill.) (11-14, 4-4 CCIW) rallied with a 10-4 run to shift the score to 20-18. Two kills from Shannon Kebisek sealed the set for the Lady Reds 25-23. It was all Carthage in the final set holding a 12-2 margin before going on to the 25-14 straight-set victory.

The Lady Reds continue conference play on Wednesday, October 30 facing Millikin at 7 p.m. at Tarble Arena.

Head Coach Leanne Ulmer

"It's always a good night when you get a CCIW win. We came out really sharp in set one and had all phases clicking. Augustana improved their play and our focus went down. We did a good job holding them off to get the second set. We came out firing in set three and closed out the match. Megan Behrendt and Shannon Kebisek did a nice job on the outside. Our ball control allowed us to set the middles and both Nicole Acton and Andrea Kozak had good offensive nights. Ellie LeCount did a nice job directing the offense and got the hitters some great looks. Now we have a week to prepare for Millikin at home next Wednesday for the outright conference title."

Quick Facts

  • The Lady Reds offense hit .350 in the match marking the fourth time Carthage registered over .350 on the season.
  • Megan Behrendt registered double-digit kills on the day finishing with 12 while Shannon Kebisek and Andrea Kozak each tallied eight.
  • Ellie LeCount recorded 37 assists in the match.
  • Kebisek recorded her 1,000 career kill on the night.
