Lady Reds Stay Perfect at Home with Win over Pointers

KENOSHA, Wis. — The No. 4 Carthage College women's volleyball team defeated Wisconsin-Stevens Point 3-1 in non-conference competition Wednesday at Tarble Arena.

It was a back-and-forth effort throughout the first set with Wisconsin-Stevens Point (20-6) holding a small 14-12 advantage. Carthage (21-2) battled back to tie the game at 19 and later took a 23-21 lead until the Pointers scored the last four points to take a one-set lead. The second set started just like the first with the score knotted at 14. Wisconsin-Stevens Point controlled a slim 20-16 margin until the Lady Reds went on a 9-3 run to close out the set. It was all Carthage in the third as the Lady Reds started with a 15-5 score and went on to take the set 25-13. In the final set of the day, the Lady Reds momentum continued holding a 16-5 lead before taking the match 25-12.

The team will return to action on Saturday, October 19 with two matches at the Midwest Invitational, beginning with a 12:30 p.m. game against No. 20 Hope before concluding with tournament host No. 2 Calvin at 2:30 p.m.

Head Coach Leanne Ulmer

"It was a very exciting night in the TARC! Wisconsin-Stevens Point is a talented team that is having a good year and they came out tough against us tonight. After losing the first set and struggling to find our footing in set two we made a few changes and our defensive intensity picked up and that got our offense going. Megan Behrendt refused to let a ball drop. Ellie LeCount did a great job getting her hitters some good looks. Haley Horner caught fire and was pretty unstoppable in sets three and four. Our serving really put pressure on them. Megan Dawrant, Shannon Kebisek got us on some runs. Laura de Rosales was outstanding tonight on defense and passing. Wisconsin-Stevens Point had some very good servers and I thought Shannon, Megan Behrendt and Lo did a great job passing. We had a fun crowd tonight and we love to play at home. Now we get a few days to prep and get ready to face very good competition."

  • The Carthage defense held Wisconsin-Stevens Point to a .077 hitting percentage.
