Red Men Fall 31-7 to Illinois Wesleyan

KENOSHA, Wis. — Unable to overcome an early deficit, the Carthage College football team fell to Illinois Wesleyan 31-7 Saturday afternoon at Art Keller Field.

While the Red Men (2-3, 2-2 CCIW) began their opening drive by moving the ball up the field, they were ultimately forced to punt, with the Titans (3-2, 3-1 CCIW) scoring on their first drive. A field goal by the visitors would put Carthage down by 10 at the end of the first quarter.

After a pair of touchdowns by Illinois Wesleyan in the second period, the Red Men would score just before halftime, as Colton Klein found Jovone Stricker for their second touchdown connection in the past two weeks.

However, a score by the Titans in the third quarter would be the only points added to the board for the remainder of the game, setting the final tally at 31-7 in favor of the visitors.

Carthage will hit the road next weekend and travel to Decatur, Ill., where they will face Millikin on Saturday, October 19 at 6 p.m.

Head Coach Dustin Hass

"Offensively, we did a good job of making short throws today. Having that size disadvantage really hurt us though. We didn't get a sack all day and couldn't get a whole lot of pressure on their quarterback. We need some of the guys to decide that they're going to be 'that guy' and help us finish. They fought all game long, but we just have to continue to get better."

Quick Facts

  • With a tackle for a loss today, senior defensive lineman Jacob Simar has recorded one in every game this year, and now has 7.5 in five contests.
  • Bobby Baker led the Red Men with nine tackles today, a career-best for the junior corner.
