THE GAMES

• A pair of road games stand in front of the Carthage College women's basketball team (9-5, 3-2 CCIW) this week as they'll face North Central College (Ill.) (3-12, 1-5 CCIW) in Naperville, Illinois on Wednesday, January 9 at 7:00 p.m., and Augustana College (10-5, 4-2 CCIW) in Rock Island, Illinois on Saturday, January 12 at 5:00 p.m.
• The Lady Reds will look to exploit a North Central squad that rank towards the bottom of NCAA Division III in field goal percentage defense (.415), rebounding margin (-6.4), personal fouls per game (20.0), scoring defense (70.5) and three-point field goal percentage defense (32.3). 
• Freshman Alanna Newsome paces the Cardinals in scoring with 14.7 points per game while junior Natali Dimitrova commands the team with 5.7 rebounds per game. 
• North Central's three victories in 2018-19 occurred against Knox (62-54), Augustana (69-58) and Dubuque (72-57). 
• The Cardinals are in the midst of a five-game losing skid at the hands of St. Mary's (Minn.) (57-72), Wartburg (57-87), Washington University (Mo.) (66-78), Carroll (Wis.) (65-72) and Elmhurst (59-75). 
• The Augustana Vikings are coming in hot with a six-game winning streak that dates back to a 61-54 decision over Dubuque on December  12.
• Senior Izzy Anderson, who ranks seventh in the country with 82 free throws made, paces the squad with 17.3 points per game through 15 games. Anderson's 102 free throw attempts in 2018-19 is 12th among NCAA Division III women's basketball players.  As a team, Augustana is seventh in the country with 235 made free throws.
• Reigning CCIW Player of the Week Alexis Jones is second on the team in scoring with 15.6 points per game along with a team-leading .551 (92-167) field goal percentage. 

THE COACHES

• Maggie McCloskey-Bax (3-12) is in her first season as North Central head women's basketball coach. 
• Mark Beinborn (74-92) is in his seventh season as Augustana head women's basketball coach. 

THE SERIES

• The Lady Reds are 50-27 all-time against North Central, and 40-28 all-time against Augustana. 

LAST TIME OUT

• The Lady Reds pushed their win streak to three games with victories over North Park (76-39) and Millikin (68-63) last week. 
• Sammie Woodward averaged 15.5 points and attained a .500 (13-26) field goal percentage over last week's two-game stretch. 
• Rachel Szydlowski pulled down her second-straight double-double with 15 points and 11 boards against North Park.

1,000 POINT/RECORD WATCH

Bailey Gilbert, who now owns a school-record 214 career three-point field goals made, now carries 963 career points, 37 shy of becoming the 23rd Carthage women's basketball player to eclipse 1,000. Gilbert is currently second in school history with 539 three-pointers attempted, 25 shy of tying Angela Beyer's (2001-04) school-record mark of 564. 

CARTHAGE IS...

• 5-0 when holding opponents to under 60 points.
• 9-0 when leading with 2:00 remaining in the contest. 
• 7-0 when having more steals than opponents.
• 5-0 when having more rebounds than opponents. 

TAIL OF TWO STREAKS

North Central will carry a five-game losing skid into their meeting with Carthage while Augustana will take six-straight wins into Saturday's bout with the Lady Reds. 

NEW YEAR SUCCESS

The Lady Reds opened a new year 2-0 for the first time since 2014-15 when they defeated Augustana (74-51) and North Park (58-53) at home. 

GREGORY FIELDHOUSE WOES

The Lady Reds will look to dodge a four-game losing skid at North Central's Gregory Arena. 

HIGHLY RANKED STATS

Bailey Gilbert paces the CCIW and ranks 21st in the country with a 2.53 assist/turnover ratio. Sammie Woodward's .457 three-point field goal percentage leads the CCIW and sits 20th among NCAA Division III women's basketball players.
