Lady Reds Make It Eight In a Row With a 67-59 Win Over Elmhurst



 
ELMHURST, ILL.—Standing between the Carthage College women's basketball team and eight-straight wins was Elmhurst College at R.A. Faganel Hall in Elmhurst, Illinois on Wednesday. The Lady Reds made it happen with a 67-59 victory over the Bluejays, thus maintaining a third-place standing in the CCIW.
 
Autumn Kalis paced the Lady Reds for the second-straight game with 22 points off a 6-of-10 (.600) mark from the three-point line. Madie Kaelber rounded out the Lady Reds in double figures with 11 points while Sammie Woodward chipped in nine along with seven rebounds. Bailey Gilbert led all players on the boards with 10 along with five points while Maggie Berigan mustered a season-high four blocks.
 
The Lady Reds dominated on the boards with a 50-42 advantage, which included 14 offensive rebounds. Elmhurst's Lisa Logan tallied a game-high 25 points along with nine boards.
 
Carthage's eight-game win streak gives them a 14-5, 8-2 CCIW record while Elmhurst drops to 8-10, 4-5 CCIW.
 
Lady Reds 67, Elmhurst 59
 
Carthage found themselves in a 21-15 hole after the first quarter before battling the Bluejays to three lead changes over the second quarter. The game's final lead change went in favor of Carthage at the 2:01 mark of the second quarter when Autumn Kalis's three-pointer gave them a 28-27 lead. Woodward and Kalis each hit a three-pointer within the final minute of the second quarter to push Carthage's lead to 34-30 at halftime.
 
The Lady Reds opened the third quarter with a 17-6 run, capped by Kaelber's three-pointer with 5:10 left in the third that made the score 51-36. Lisa Logan's 11 fourth-quarter points helped Elmhurst get within four of Carthage at 61-57 with 2:31 left, but free throws from Berigan and Woodward down the stretch iced a 67-59 victory.
 
Carthage will host Wheaton College on Saturday, January 26 at 5:00 p.m.
