Lady Reds and Pointers Battle to a 2-2 Draw

STEVENS POINT, WIS.—The back-end of a four-game road swing pitted the Carthage College women's soccer team at UW-Stevens Point for a Saturday-afternoon affair in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. The Lady Reds' corner kick offense produced a goal for the fourth-consecutive contest in a 2-2 tie against the Pointers.

Carthage registered five shots in each half, and one in overtime for a game total of 11. Two of those found the back of the net courtesy of McKenna Wallin and Taylor Stenmark. Freshman goalkeeper Sara Lieffrig tallied three saves for Carthage while her counterpart Lexi Pawlowski matched that total for the Pointers.

All three yellow cards in the contest were assessed to the Pointers.

The tie gives Carthage a 2-1-1, 0-0 CCIW record, while UW-Stevens Point stays unbeaten at 2-0-1, 0-0 WIAC.

Gracie Wendels gave UW-Stevens Point an early 1-0 lead in the fifth minute when she floated a shot from 20 yards out that was too high for Lady Reds goalkeeper Lieffrig. The Lady Reds found the scoreboard on their third shot of the game in the 23rd minute when Stenmark converted on a free kick to make the score 1-1.

Nicole Nitti's corner kick in the 50th minute resulted in a Lady Reds goal. Jacey Kent, who possessed Nitti's corner kick on the play, assisted on Wallin's one-time shot in front of the net to give Carthage a 2-1 lead.

The Pointers outshot Carthage 8-4 from that point through regulation. It resulted in one goal for UW-Stevens Point as Esme Reinders tied the game 2-2 in the 76th minute, where things stayed through the 90th minute. Carthage and UW-Stevens Point traded a shot throughout the two 10-minute overtime periods en route to a 2-2 tie.
