KENOSHA, Wis. – The Carthage College Red Men had their five-game winning streak snapped on Friday evening at Augie Schmidt Field, falling to the Illinois Wesleyan University Titans, 10-6.
The loss drops the Red Men to 29-9 on the year and to 16-6 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, while IWU moves to 21-16 and 10-12, staying alive in the postseason hunt.
After a first inning run by the Titans in the top half of the inning, the Red Men drew even with an unearned run, after a leadoff single by
Colton Klein and a passed ball that got him into scoring position,
Cody Phelps doubled to the left field wall for the RBI.
The Titans struck again in the third, as Illinois Wesleyan jumped on starter
Kevin Tibor for five runs on straight hits five straight hits to take a 6-1 lead through three. Tibor took the loss for just the second time this season, sending him to 6-2 on the year.
The Titans eventually built their lead to 8-1 over Carthage before the Red Men began to chip away at the lead. In the fifth inning,
Cody Phelps blooped a single into center to score
Ben Levicki and cut the deficit to 8-2.
In the seventh, the Red Men continued to cut into the lead, scoring four runs on four hits and taking advantage of a Titan's error. A leadoff walk to
Myles Farley started things off for the Red Men, as he came around to score two batters later on a
Colton Klein single. With two on and no outs,
Cody Phelps blasted a ball to the deepest part of centerfield but was robbed of homerun by Nick Figus. Levicki tagged and scored on the play.
