Lady Reds Rout Bluejays In Regular Season Finale, 17-6

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Carthage College Lady Reds wrapped up their regular season, Wednesday on the road, defeating the Bluejays of Elmhurst College at Langhorst Field, 17-6.

The win moves the Lady Reds to 12-5 overall on the season and to 4-2 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, while the Bluejays falls to 6-8 and 0-5 in the conference with one more to play.

"Great team win tonight," said head coach Lauren Hein after the win.  "We made some minor adjustments on the draw and started to find more possessions through winning those. Perfect on clears, and did a phenomenal job winning those 50/50 ground balls. We have a nice break until we play in the tournament next Wednesday, but have a lot work to do in preparing for whomever we face."

Carthage opened struggling early and falling behind 4-2 13 minutes into Wednesday's game.  The Lady Reds responded however, going on a 7-0 run to closeout the half, which included four goals from senior Rachel Mussell during the stretch, taking a 9-4 lead into the break.

The second half was all Carthage.  The Lady Reds controlled 8-of-11 draws and outshot the Bluejays 12-5 on goal, as Carthage ran away with the game with a 8-2 advantage in second half scoring for the 11-goal victory.

For the game, Carthage outshot Elmhurst 30-13 on goals and the Lady Reds finished 15-15 on clears.

Mussell finished with the four first half goals to lead all players and Jessie Gibson and India Soodan each netted hat-tricks in the win.  Rounding out the scoring for the Lady Reds were Kendell Santin, Nicole Bowman and Savanna Giesler with two goals each and Elena Herman with one.

Megan McNamara continued her historic season, increasing her single-season assists record to 46 with her third five-assist game of the season and second straight.

Carthage will now wait to learn whom they will play in next week's CCIW Tournament.  The Lady Reds know they will be on the road, but will not learn who they face until Saturday's final day of the regular season.
